A Cozy, Love-Filled Celebration: Alexandra & Nigel’s Wedding – From a sentimental church ceremony to a joyful night at Josabi’s Acres

As San Antonio wedding photographers, one of our greatest joys is following love stories that feel rooted in something deeper than just a moment—stories that unfold across years, friendships, and even generations. That’s exactly what made Alexandra and Nigel’s wedding day so memorable for us. These two have known each other since middle school (yes, you read that right!) and have grown up alongside each other in so many ways. Capturing this day felt like being invited into something sacred.

A Love Story Years in the Making

Though they knew of each other all throughout high school, it wasn’t until their senior year—when a mutual friend re-introduced them—that things finally clicked. It took Nigel four tries to get Alexandra to say yes to a date (she even gave him her number in Spanish by accident!), but persistence paid off. There’s something incredibly sweet about how their relationship began with a little awkwardness and a lot of laughter—which, if you know them, fits perfectly with who they are as a couple.

Their relationship continued to grow and deepen through college and beyond. After seven years together, they celebrated another big milestone: purchasing their first home together. While they both agreed that an engagement could wait while they focused on their new home, Alexandra eventually got a little impatient (understandably so!). Little did she know, Nigel already had the ring—hidden away in his gym bag. In a quiet, real-life moment, while Alexandra was sorting laundry, he asked the question. It wasn’t the elaborate plan he had originally imagined, but it was so them.

A Sentimental Ceremony in Atascosa

Their wedding ceremony took place at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Catholic Church in Atascosa, a small town on the southwest edge of San Antonio. The church holds deep significance for Alexandra—she’s been attending since she was six years old, and her late grandfather is laid to rest on the church grounds. The emotional weight of this place made their wedding ceremony especially moving.

The church is intimate and serene, filled with soft natural light and a sense of peace that only comes from years of prayers and shared history. We loved capturing Alexandra walking down the aisle in a space that had shaped so many moments of her life, surrounded by family who had celebrated countless sacraments within those same walls.

After the ceremony, one of the most touching parts of the day unfolded. The couple made a quiet stop at her grandfather’s grave, leaving a boutonnière in his honor. It was a powerful, emotional moment that needed no words. Just the gesture itself spoke volumes about love, legacy, and the way family can still be present, even in absence.

This wasn’t our first time photographing a wedding at Our Lady Queen of Heaven. In fact, we’ve captured other weddings in Alexandra’s extended family right here, which made the day even more special for us. There’s something about seeing generations of love unfold in the same sacred space—it reminds us why we do what we do.

Reception Magic at Josabi’s Acres in Helotes

After the ceremony, everyone made their way to Josabi’s Acres in Helotes, located northwest of the city. Nestled under massive oak trees and surrounded by rustic charm, Josabi’s Acres is a laid-back yet incredibly charming wedding venue near San Antonio. It was a perfect choice for Alexandra and Nigel—especially since Nigel was instantly drawn to the exposed brick and the character-filled architecture.

Although the weather had other plans (it was freezing and had rained earlier in the day), the couple and their guests handled the shift indoors with total grace. Honestly, the weather only added to the cozy atmosphere. Guests gathered close, warmed by laughter and shared stories, as they dined inside the venue. The intimate setting allowed everyone to truly focus on what mattered most: connection, joy, and celebration.

The space was filled with beautiful floral arrangements by Flowers by Lety, whose work brought in just the right mix of softness and color. Tables were adorned with vibrant centerpieces that matched the couple’s joyful spirit. There was a warmth in the air that had nothing to do with temperature—it came from the people, the closeness, and the stories shared over tacos and laughter.

Dance, Music, and Mariachi Magic

Even though the temperature dipped low, the dance floor still found its home outside. Guests weren’t about to let a little cold stop the party! With heaters keeping everyone just toasty enough, and the beat of the music pumping thanks to DJ Robert Flores, the celebration carried on without skipping a beat.

One of the most memorable moments of the evening was the surprise mariachi performance—a heartfelt gift to the couple that brought tears to more than one set of eyes. The mariachis brought with them the unmistakable magic that only live music can deliver. Their presence added something timeless and uniquely San Antonio to the reception.

The Little Details That Made the Day

There were so many thoughtful touches throughout the day. The couple chose Tacos el Taconazo food truck for their reception meal, and let us tell you—the line for seconds (and thirds) said everything you need to know. Comfort food, shared with people you love? That’s the good stuff.

Dessert came courtesy of Bird Bakery, who created a beautiful and delicious cake. We may or may not have had a slice (or two), and we’re still dreaming about it.

Hair and makeup were handled by Angie Riojas of Nu Mode, who brought Alexandra’s natural beauty to the forefront. She looked radiant all day, from the ceremony to the dance floor.

And of course, Simba—their beloved pup—made an appearance in spirit, since he’s such an important part of their lives. The couple shares their love of board games, movie nights, and new food adventures, and we love how their wedding day reflected their easygoing, genuine bond.

The Vibe: Relaxed, Sentimental, and Full of Love

Alexandra and Nigel are the kind of couple who don’t take life too seriously. They show affection in quiet, meaningful ways—like Alexandra linking her arm through Nigel’s, or resting her head on his shoulder. That same sweet, unspoken connection came through in every part of their wedding day.

Even with the unexpected weather, nothing ever felt stressful or off-track. Their timeline flowed, the joy never stopped, and their focus never wavered from what mattered most: celebrating with their people.

As photographers, we’re always chasing the real moments—the kind that don’t need to be staged because they’re already beautiful on their own. And this day? It was full of them. From quiet glances and heartfelt toasts to spontaneous dance breaks and stolen kisses, Alexandra and Nigel’s wedding reminded us how rich a love story becomes when it’s shared with the people who helped shape it.
